The recipient of more than 30 awards for design and creative work in the advertising industry, James is an experimental artist who has an interest in combining both generative and analogue painting methods. If representational images offer a sense of how the world looks, then Allan's interest is in how abstractions offer a sense of the way the world feels, beyond content.
We live in an age when anyone can create an image with a smartphone and share it with the world on Facebook, so abstractions provide an antidote to the information age.
Allan's works are concerned with how to make sense from the complexities of high-speed information networks, open systems, and the notion of ‘how do we see information as form.' His works are often characterised by an exhilarating sense of speed.
In 2012 James completed a Master of Fine Arts at Elam.
